Organizers for the 2026 World Cup in Boston have announced a comprehensive transportation plan designed to accommodate the influx of attendees expected for the global event. The strategy includes enhanced rail and bus services, as well as expanded parking options, to ensure efficient movement to and from event venues.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) will operate 14 commuter rail trains during the event. These trains are expected to provide capacity for up to 20,000 attendees, offering a significant public transit option for those traveling to matches and related activities.

In addition to rail services, Yankee Line, a charter bus operator, will supply 100 charter buses to further support transportation needs. This fleet aims to supplement the commuter rail, providing flexible and scalable options for groups and individuals attending the games.

The transportation plan also emphasizes the availability of ample parking, catering to attendees who choose to drive. Organizers have indicated that there will be “plenty of parking” to accommodate the anticipated crowds, though specific numbers and locations were not detailed in the initial announcement.

This multi-modal approach reflects a coordinated effort between public agencies and private companies to manage the logistical challenges of hosting a major international sporting event. The plan is intended to minimize congestion and ensure a smooth experience for visitors and local residents alike.
