Seamark Seafood, an upscale restaurant that opened in 2024 at Encore Boston Harbor, is set to close its doors and lay off 56 workers. The restaurant, which featured a James Beard award-winning chef, had been a notable addition to the region’s dining scene.
According to employees, there were concerns about wages, with some workers expressing a desire for pay rates more closely aligned with those earned by unionized Encore employees. The closure will result in significant job losses for the staff at Seamark Seafood.
The restaurant’s opening in 2024 was marked by high expectations, given its acclaimed leadership in the kitchen and its location within the prominent Encore property. However, the business will now cease operations, affecting dozens of employees.
This development comes amid ongoing discussions in the hospitality industry about wage standards and labor conditions, particularly in venues associated with larger resort and casino complexes.
